Rep. Erin Murphy Responds to Governor’s veto of final wishes legislation

Saint Paul, Minnesota – State Rep. Erin Murphy (DFL – Saint Paul) released this statement following the Governor’s veto of SF 341, a bill to same-sex couples an equal opportunity to honor the final wishes of their partners and seek justice following a wrongful death.

“Many of us have lost loved ones in our lives and have had the ability to carry out their final wishes. Under current law, married spouses have these rights, committed same-sex partners do not.

The Governor has chosen to stand on the side of inequality by vetoing a bill that would have put an end to this discrimination.

This is a rejection of the American value of equality and is out of step with the views of Minnesotans. We will continue fighting for fairness, compassion and dignity alongside the majority of Minnesotans who believe discrimination has no place in a nation founded on the principles equality and opportunity for all."
