President Bush:
I am writing today to express my intense displeasure with your decision to escalate the war in Iraq. I understand that foreign policy is far outside my jurisdiction as a State Representative, but out of respect to the strong views of my constituents I must articulate my extreme disappointment at your decision.
Mr. President, your decision to increase our troop presence in Iraq takes us in exactly the wrong direction. The course you have chosen mirrors the mistakes of the past and will not solve the problem. The American people clearly desire a true change of course in Iraq, you have chosen to disregard their wishes entirely and continue to place the lives of the brave men and women of our armed forces at risk.
With each passing day, our hope for a positive conclusion to the Iraqi conflict diminishes. Please sir, to avoid a disastrous end to an ill-advised war, I implore you to listen to the advice of Iraq Study Group. Listen to the advice of dozens of retired generals. Listen to the American people. Reconsider your decision and bring an end to this tragedy.
Regards,
Representative Erin Murphy
