St. Paul, MN –State Representative Linda Slocum (District 63B – Bloomington and Richfield) attended the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission (MIPRC) meeting in Washington D.C. She was elected by the Midwestern delegation of legislators and business people to serve as vice-chair of the organization. The organization set priorities for the coming year and met with U.S. senate and congressional delegations from the member states.
"I am honored to receive Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson-Kelliher's appointment to this commission and to be representing Minnesota in this capacity. I am also honored to be elected vice chair by my fellow commission members," said Slocum. "It’s a great opportunity for state leaders to collaborate efforts to create long-range plans for energy efficient, fast and reliable passenger rail service in the Midwest."
MIPRC brings together state leaders from across the region (Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Ohio) to advocate passenger rail improvements and formulate public policy priorities. The commission coordinates efforts among midwestern state officials, and between the public and private sector at all levels (federal, state, and local) to move forward efficient passenger rail transportation. It also supports current states' efforts conducted through the various state departments of transportation.
"Representative Slocum is a natural leader," said Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson-Kelliher. " "She is well versed on transportation issues and committed to developing an efficient passenger rail system that will benefit not only Minnesotans but people throughout the Midwest. I have great confidence that Representative Linda Slocum's strong and innovative abilities will serve to make the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative a reality for Minnesota."
