Dear Editor,

The House Property Tax Committee's omnibus bill offers Minnesotans $543 million in property tax relief. The bill will benefit the average Bloomington and Richfield homeowner with a property tax cut of approximately $500.

The House bill provides real property tax relief by making property taxes fair. The plan re-establishes the Homestead Credit State Refund, increases Local Government and County Aid, and buys back School Levies. Additionally, it creates a 4th tier of income tax.

The Homestead Credit State Refund will be available to homeowners if their property tax bill is higher than 2% of their income. This directly benefits senior citizens on fixed incomes and young people in first homes.

By increasing Local Government and County Aid, city and county services, like improvements to roads, infrastructural needs and police and fire services won't rely so heavily on property taxes.

Buying back School Levies means $1,396,022 for Bloomington and $518,451 for Richfield that will go directly into each cities tax coffers significantly lowering the burden on homeowner's property taxes.

The House bill adds fairness to people's income tax burden, plus pays for property tax relief by creating a new income tax tier for married couples earning $400,000 or more and single people earning $226,000 or more. People in these income brackets have been paying a lower percentage of their income in taxes than middle- income taxpayers!

We've worked hard to provide a reasonable property tax reform plan that is fair to every property owner in Minnesota.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
State Representative Linda Slocum,
District 63B Bloomington and Richfield
