SLOCUM OFFICIALLY TAKES HOUSE SEAT

ST. PAUL - State Representative Linda Slocum officially took her seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives on January 3rd. Slocum now represents parts of Bloomington and Richfield, succeeding Dan Larson who was elected to the State Senate.

Slocum said she hopes the new Legislature takes a different tone than those have in the last few years.

"November's election wasn't simply about a new direction," Slocum said. "It was also about the kind of government Minnesota deserves. If we're going to address the challenges facing us, we need to find common ground."

Slocum said the new Legislature is likely to take up issues important to every Minnesotan.

"Minnesotans want us to come together and pass meaningful permanent property tax relief, ensure quality schools, colleges, and universities, bring our transportation system into the 21st century, and make health care more affordable and accessible.

Rep. Slocum will have a busy schedule now the Legislature is in session. She's been assigned to the E-12 Education Policy; Energy Finance and Policy; Higher Education and Workforce Development Policy and Finance; and Transportation Finance Committees.

"These committee assignments will give Bloomington and Richfield an important seat at the table on key issues."

Slocum is urging constituents to contact her if they have any questions, comments, or ideas about legislative issues. She can be contacted at 651-296-7158 or via e-mail at rep.linda.slocum@house.mn.
