Neighbor-
We just wrapped up business at the Capitol after conducting a brief special session to pass an $80 million disaster relief package.
The bill includes $73.6 million to help at least two dozen counties recover from September’s floods. We also provided $6.6 million for cities such as Wadena to recover from tornadoes that touched down in June.
Altogether, the recovery price tag could run $140 million, split between the state and the federal government. The state’ spending includes money from the general fund, general obligation bonds, and highway funds .
The federal government denied requests for money for individual property owners, but low-interest federal Small Business Administration loans will be available.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s approval is the last key piece to this package, but we expect him to provide his signature quickly to keep the recovery process moving.
Sincerely,
Bob
