ST. PAUL – State Rep. Bop Dettmer recently earned a Guardian of Small Business Award for his efforts pertaining to the workforce during the 2009-10 session.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Dettmer, R-Forest Lake. “We all know how the recession has taken a toll on our local shops, but it’s these small businesses that are going to lead us back out of this downturn and back to prosperity. I am honored to receive this award and will remain committed to helping our small businesses grow so more people can get back to work.”
Dettmer received the award from the National Federation of Independent Business. State Director of NFIB/MN Mike Hickey said Dettmer was recognized for his votes in support of small business, including voting against several significant tax increases. Dettmer also supported legislation to expand the Small Employer Flexible Benefit Plan Law to more small businesses and importantly individuals, and opposed a measure to raise the cost of Health Savings Account plans.
“Representative Dettmer is a strong supporter of small business at the Capitol and we really appreciate that” Hickey said. “He made many votes in support of small business and is a real friend. We are happy to announce that he has earned the Guardian of Small Business Award.”
