EMAIL UPDATE: TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Greetings Friends,

I am pleased to announce the first in a series of Town Hall Meetings that I will be co-hosting with Senator Ray Vandeveer in the next few weeks. These meetings will provide an opportunity for you to discuss the legislative session and will allow us to seek input on state spending and the massive looming budget deficient. Below are the first of our upcoming Town Hall Meetings, a full schedule of future meetings will be announced shortly.

Tuesday, February 24:
6:30 PM
Hugo Town Hall at Hugo City Hall, 14669 Fitzgerald Avenue N.
Note: Fellow State Representative Matt Dean will be participating in this meeting as well.

7:30 PM
Centerville Town Hall at Centerville City Hall, 1880 Main Street.

Also next, as you may have heard, the Democratic Leadership of both the House and the Senate are conducting a series of Listening Sessions around the state. One such meeting will be held in Forest Lake on Thursday February 26 at the Forest Lake City Hall beginning at 6:30 PM.

These meetings are independent of the Town Hall meetings being conducted by Sen. Vandeveer and myself, however we both plan to be in attendance at this meeting. The organizers of the meeting are seeking public input about Governor Pawlentys proposed budget. To do so, they have required that any member of the public who wishes to speak needs to sign up in advance. I encourage all of you who wish to address the panel of legislators to sign up, which can be done here: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/budgetsignup.asp?loc=ForestLake.

I will note that the legislature has been in session for nearly 2 months now, and the Democratic leadership of both Houses have failed to offer ANY solutions to the our massive budget deficit which may reach as high as $7 BILLION dollars. This has been very disappointing, and I am hopeful that this series of Listening Sessions proves a constructive way of seeking public input and not merely a bashing of Governor Pawlenty's proposed budget by special interests.

Remember, only last session Democratic leadership proposed over $5 BILLION in tax increases when the state was blessed with a $2 BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS. Now we are facing a potential $7 BILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT. I encourage all who can attend the meeting and are willing to testify to sign up so that a thoughtful and open discussion about our states spending can be held with the legislators in attendance.

Hope to see you all next week!
Bob
