State Representative
District 52A
Governor Pawlenty recently gave his State of the State address. Standing in front of a large banner declaring 150 years of statehood the governor recounted the great history of our state. While Minnesota has a great history we must still move ahead. The governor discussed some good ways to do so.
One of the proposals the governor discussed was his veterans’ initiatives which I fully support. These initiatives, 35 in all, would strengthen Minnesota’s commitment to the brave men and women who have served our country. As a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee I look forward to supporting our Governor by passing these initiatives into law in the upcoming legislative session.
A 21st Century Tax Reform Commission was unveiled by Governor Pawlenty during his State of the State address. This commission will focus on improving our job climate by reforming Minnesota’s tax laws. The commission will be made up of people who actually have direct experience in creating private sector jobs. I applaud this move and look forward to implementing the recommendations of this commission as they come forth. We need to change Minnesota’s tax code so we can lessen the burden on our families and encourage the job creators to invest in Minnesota.
Governor Pawlenty also informed the legislature that he would not hesitate to use the taxpayer protection pen, which is more commonly known as the veto pen. House Republicans will stand firm to protect the wallets of Minnesota’s citizens. With the economic outlook being murky, we must be strong in our fight against increasing taxes. We must work together to reduce spending and not raise taxes.
I look forward to the future of our state. Minnesota’s leaders need to look forward, and our ambition, as the governor said, should be “to make this state the best place in America – the best place in the world – to live, work, and raise a family.”
