THEY ARE CALLED PRIORITIES

By Bob Dettmer
State Representative
District 52A

When the state spends your tax dollars they should spend it on the priorities. As your legislator I am working hard to do just that. That is why I support the majority of the bonding bill to be spent on roads and bridges across our great state.

Currently in Minnesota we have roads and bridges that are not up to the necessary standards. I see articles and news stories about the Hastings and Stillwater Bridges that are in desperate need of repair. We are constantly hearing about the need to invest in our transportation system. Let’s make fiscally responsible investments into our transportation system, and we can do that with the bonding bill.

Promoting economic development is another priority for our state. With the current state budget deficit we need to assist the real job creators, which are businesses, in making more jobs. With Governor Pawlenty’s bonding proposal setting aside $96 million we can do just that. Some of that money will be dedicated to the Strategic Entrepreneurial Economic Development (SEED) initiative, which will help our economy through a Redevelopment Grant program. This provides assistance in redeveloping commercial, industrial and residential sites, Greater Minnesota Business Development infrastructure, and $10 million for Bioscience Business Development infrastructure.

Let’s make roads, bridges, and economic development our priorities in 2008. These three things will benefit our whole state.
