I was concerned when I heard of the plans by the owner of The Landings at Silver Lake Village to change their parking policy for seniors living in low-income apartment units. The new policy would have moved the low-income seniors parking to an outside area when their leases came up for renewal, denying them the underground parking they have used since moving in.
Not only would this have placed a hardship on these seniors, especially those with disabilities, it appeared discriminatory. As I was investigating this situation, I was glad to hear the announcement last week by Dominium, Inc. that they will stand by the original agreement to allow low-income senior renters of The Landings the opportunity to continue to have access to underground parking.
It is heartening to know that a deal is a deal and that the owners of this urban neighborhood development made a fair decision to treat all their tenants equally, continuing with the designated underground parking spots originally available to the low-income units.
