Legislation in Support of Our Veterans

To The Editor:

As I begin my first term in the Minnesota House of Representatives, I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve our communities. I am pleased to tell you about two bills that will be helpful to our veterans and members of the military. We are seeing to provide tax relief and tuition help for those who have served our country.

We have already passed the Heroes Earned Retirement Act, which allows tax-exempt combat pay to be used as a basis to make IRA contributions. I am also proud to support legislation that will create a Minnesota GI Bill. This legislation will offer up to $10,000 in tuition assistance for college and secondary education. It’s a solid bill and should pass without much debate.

These are some nice opportunities to reward our military men and women. They have given us so much and it's great when we can return the favor.

Sincerely,

State Rep. Carolyn Laine
District 50A
