St. Paul, MN – This morning, Republicans announced their intent to file a lawsuit against Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie over the titling of the Marriage Amendment question on the ballot this November.
State Representative Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) issued the following statement:
“Yet again, we see Republicans wasting taxpayer time and money on frivolous issues, none of which will put anyone back to work or do anything positive for Minnesota.
“State law requires the Secretary of State to write the titles of ballot questions (Minn. Stat. 204D.15). Politicians in the Legislature tried to write their own ballot title, but Governor Dayton vetoed the Legislature’s bill. Now the Secretary of State is following the law and writing an accurate title. Republicans should not sue the Secretary of State for doing his job and making the 2012 election run smoothly.
“Republicans continue to show their true colors. They are simply out of touch with Minnesotans who want their leaders to focus on ways to create jobs, strengthen Minnesotans economy and move our state forward.”
