More Evidence Republicans unwilling to present honest budget

State Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) released this statement following the party line vote to pass the House state government omnibus bill.

“This bill is more evidence that Republicans are unwilling to present an honest budget. Instead of doing their homework, they budgeted for $170 million in fictional savings based on estimated pulled out of thin air. For example, Republicans book $36 million in savings for a proposal that the Department of Revenue says will only save $4 million. Republicans have not made the cuts they promised.

The only real pain Republicans included in this bill was a job cut for 5,000 Minnesota public workers. Middle class Minnesotans who keep our roads safe, help during floods and natural disasters, and care for our seniors would all get a pink slip. The collateral damage would be fewer services we all depend on along with thousands more families on the rolls of the unemployed.

Republicans are breaking their promise to cut spending and hiding behind so called reforms that actually cost taxpayers more. It’s the worst of both worlds – they can’t save any money and they are making government less effective."
