ST. PAUL, MN – Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) announced today that the State of Minnesota will face another $6.2 billion in the upcoming biennium. State Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) had this to say about today’s state budget forecast.
“After eight years with a ‘No New Taxes’ governor – enabled by irresponsible Republican legislators – the state is faced with yet another record budget shortfall. That’s the legacy of the Republican addiction to ‘No New Taxes’: no new jobs, chronic deficits, and a state undermining its children’s future.
“Minnesotans have rejected that legacy. Fifty-six percent of Minnesota voters chose either Mark Dayton or Tom Horner for governor – candidates who ran on raising the revenue necessary to balance our budget responsibly.
“Voters also chose a Republican legislature to produce compromise – both spending cuts and higher taxes.
“Democrats must draw a line in the sand: we will not quit or go home until the budget is balanced fairly and protects Minnesota’s legacy of investment in our children’s future."
