Today Governor Tim Pawlenty announced plans to unilaterally cut an additional $2.7 billion from the state budget, on top of $2 billion in cuts passed already this session by the legislature. These additional deep cuts will cost more jobs, eliminate care and services for more disabled Minnesotans, and send tuition and property taxes skyrocketing.
The following is a statement from State Representative Ryan Winkler (DFL - Golden Valley):

"Minnesotans should be deeply concerned by the breathtaking scope of Governor Pawlenty’s actions today. His announcement today of legislative action - eliminating programs he just signed into law, revising funding formulas, directing local governments to take actions prohibited by statute - greatly oversteps his limited authority as governor. The full scope of the governor's plans must be carefully examined to find out if they are legal. If the Governor of Minnesota can do this, it would seem there is no limit on his authority whenever the state has a budget deficit."
