REP. RYAN WINKLER NAMED "2007 NEW LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR"
ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE) has named freshman member of the House State Government Finance Committee, Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley & St. Louis Park), "2007 New Legislator of the Year" for his outstanding work in the 2007 legislative session.
MAPE is Minnesota's state employees union. From law enforcement, to the Department of Health, to the State Auditors Office, its 11,500 members statewide carry out the important work of our state government on a daily basis. MAPE members understand the value of what government does for all Minnesotans. And, likewise, they know a good state legislator when they see one.
"It is an honor to be recognized as 2007 New Legislator of the Year by our state's dedicated employees," said Rep. Winkler. "The important services they provide are an invaluable resource for all Minnesotans."
As a member of the House State Government Finance Committee, Rep. Winkler was instrumental in securing the first salary supplement for state employees since the early 90s. He also played a key role in passing an initiative that will protect state jobs from being outsourced to other venues.
Rep. Winkler was presented with the award on Friday, September 28th at MAPE's annual Delegate Assembly dinner.
