REP. RYAN WINKLER APPOINTED TO HOUSE DFL CAUCUS STEERING COMMITTEE

ST. PAUL – State Representative Ryan Winkler (DFL – Golden Valley) was elected to the House DFL Caucus Steering Committee as one of three first-term representatives chosen to help make key decisions that will drive the DFL agenda in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

"This new role gives me the opportunity to shape decisions of the DFL and ultimately guide the direction of our state," said Winkler. "I look forward to these responsibilities and working with Democrats to move Minnesota forward."

Winkler was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in November and has been serving in the House for just a month and a half. Prior to his service in the Legislature, Rep. Winkler received his undergraduate degree from Harvard and a degree in law from the University of Minnesota. After law school Winkler first practiced law with a firm that specialized in the sustainable management of water resources and public-private investments. Winkler currently works as General Counsel for Nazca Solutions, a software company that helps local governments in Minnesota function more efficiently. His business and legal experience will be a great asset in his work as a legislator and on the steering committee.

Winkler's activity and experience in the Minnesota DFL Party will also prove to be helpful in fulfilling the responsibilities of this new position. After leading the John Edwards presidential campaign in Minnesota, Winkler formed the Minnesota chapter of the American Constitution Society – an organization of progressive lawyers who work to protect the Constitutional guaranties of civil rights. Moreover, he is a devoted leader in his party and active in progressive causes – which likely contributed to his election to the Caucus Steering Committee.

"I believe that as Democrats, we were given the opportunity in November to move our state in a new direction. I am excited to be involved in this important work," said Winkler.

Speaker of the House, Margaret Anderson-Kelliher is also confident in Rep. Winkler's ability to carry out the duties of this position effectively.

"Ryan is the right person for the job," said Kelliher. "His dedication to the progress and welfare of all Minnesotans has led him to be an outstanding advocate for his community and this state. His service on the Steering Committee will be of great benefit to the Legislature and the future of this state."
