JOHN BENSON TAKES OATH OF OFFICE TO REPRESENT DISTRICT 43B

1st term legislator looks for productive session

ST. PAUL – John Benson of Minnetonka was officially sworn in as the District 43B State Representative as the 85th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 3rd at the State Capitol. Benson, a retired teacher, is beginning his first term in the State Legislature.
"It is and honor and a privilege to represent the citizens of Minnetonka at the State Capitol," Benson said. "I look forward to representing their interests, and to working across party lines to pass legislation that will benefit all Minnesotans."
Representative Benson, a retired teacher, will serve as the Vice-chair of the Labor and Consumer Protection Division, and will also fill several key posts; the E-12 Education Committee and K-12 Education Finance Division, the Housing Policy and Finance Division and the Public Health Finance Division.
"I'm pleased with the opportunities that come with these committee assignments," said Benson. "I hope my long-time experience and commitment to good policy will help move some significant legislation forward for Minnesota."
Benson believes the Legislature will focus on common ground issues this year and work in the bipartisan manner that voters asked for in November.
"We have an opportunity to permanently lower property taxes, support our public schools, and to move forward on affordable and accessible health care," said Benson. "I look forward to working with members from both sides of the aisle on these issues and others, as we do the work of the people of Minnesota."
“My goal each day is to make sure all of the people of my district have a voice at the State Capitol," Benson said. “Citizen involvement in the legislative process is essential, and I welcome input, questions and concerns."
