Friends and Neighbors,
Just a quick reminder that I will be in the Conference Room on the upper level of Lunds in Plymouth this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. to hear your questions and thoughts on the 2007 legislative session. If you can’t make it Saturday, I will also be at the Plymouth Public Library on Tuesday night from 7 until 8. I hope to see you there!
Renewable energy grabbed headlines this week after the House passed the “25/25” renewable energy standard. Signed by the governor on Thursday, 25/25 requires that 25 percent of our energy be produced from renewable sources by the year 2025. Just as important, the law gives the state the ability to step in if rates rise too quickly. I voted for the law, which represents a great example of cooperation by all sides and can be a model for how other difficult issues should be addressed.
Remember a few months ago when Target and Wal-Mart began offering 350 generic prescription drugs for just $4? Kim Crockett of Plymouth was one of the Minnesotans who found benefit in the offers. She testified last week before a House committee in favor of a bill that would add about 50 more drugs to the $4 list by repealing a law from 1937 that prohibits pharmacists from selling certain drugs at a low cost. Quoted in the Star Tribune, Crockett said, "I'm going in tomorrow to see if the doctor can find some other drugs on the $4 list to replace the ones I can't afford.” Thank you to her for becoming an active participant in her government and for bringing her story to the Legislature.
Thank you again for your time and continued interest in news from your Legislature. I hope to see you at Lunds on Saturday morning or in the Plymouth Library on Tuesday night!
