REPRESENTATIVE SANDRA MASIN RECEIVES APPOINTMENT TO NEW JOBS TASK FORCE

ST. PAUL, MN –State Representative Sandra Masin has been appointed by Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher to serve on a newly created Minnesota House Jobs Task Force. Citing Minnesota’s historic unemployment numbers, Kelliher said the task force will focus on economic development, capital investments and tax policies aimed at creating significant job growth for Minnesotans.

“While we did get a bit of encouraging news yesterday when we learned Minnesota’s unemployment rate had dropped a bit, we also know job recovery is often one of the latest indicators to rebound in a recession," said Speaker Kelliher. “That is why we will continue to make job creation a top priority in the Minnesota House.”

The new task force will develop a jobs plan for the 2010 legislative session that will build on this year’s initiatives, with special emphasis on bio business, construction and green jobs. It will be headed by three members: Rep. Alice Hausman, Chair of the Capital Investment Committee, Rep. Ann Lenczewski, Chair of the Tax Committee and Rep. Tom Rukavina, Chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee.

“I can’t think of a higher priority for the Legislature to focus on right now than finding ways to create more Minnesota jobs,” said Rep. Masin. “One of the keys to regaining our financial footing will be to support efforts to create good-paying, high-quality jobs that make the most of opportunities in emerging technologies – whether it’s bio-science, broadband expansion or nano-technology and green enterprise. I’m honored the Speaker asked me to serve and I can’t wait to get to work.”

Speaker Kelliher indicated the Minnesota House Jobs Task Force will begin meeting in September and will continue to hold sessions throughout the fall in preparation for the 2010 Legislative Session.

“I am grateful to Rep. Masin for agreeing to serve on this task force,” said Kelliher in naming the task force members. “Her work as the creator of Minnesota’s first broadband task force will help us hit the ground running, and the depth of knowledge she brings about the value of infrastructure investment as a job stimulant adds another valuable dimension. Along with the broad range of experience the other task force members bring to the table, I’m confident they’ll produce a viable plan to help Minnesotans get back to work and bring our state back to economic prosperity.”
