To the Editor:
This year the State of Minnesota is facing a record, and growing, budget deficit of $4.8 billion. Minnesota’s constitution requires the Legislature to resolve that shortfall this year. Balancing the budget will not be easy, and all Minnesotans will be affected by the decisions made at the Capitol during this legislative session.
Governor Pawlenty began the budget process early this month, releasing his plan to resolve the revenue shortfall. Now lawmakers are working together to thoroughly review the governor’s plan. We are looking for areas of agreement and places for improvement.
As your legislators, we want to hear your opinions, and understand your priorities for our communities and state. For that reason, the Minnesota Legislature is going on the road to discuss budget solutions with citizens in every corner of the state.
A bicameral, bipartisan committee will be coming to Burnsville on Wednesday, February 25, to hold a public hearing on the budget. The hearing will begin at 7:30pm at Fairview Ridges Hospital (201 E. Nicollet Blvd.). Nonpartisan fiscal staff will be on-hand to answer questions as well. All residents of Burnsville, Apple Valley, Savage, and the surrounding area are encouraged to attend.
To balance the budget responsibly, we need to work together. Most importantly, we need your input. We look forward to hearing from you.
