State Representative Sandra Masin, along with Representative-elect Mike Obermueller and State Senator Jim Carlson will hold their first listening Session of the year on Saturday, January 10 from 10 AM –Noon at Rasmussen College. Discussion topics will include a preview of the 2009 legislative session and a discussion of the state’s budget deficit.
"I'm always eager to meet hear what my neighbors think about the issues we face" said Masin. "As we prepare to tackle some big challenges, including how to jump start our economy and create new jobs their views will be essential in helping me better represent them."
The 2009 Legislative Session will get underway on January 6. Looking ahead, Masin said in addition to looking at ways to stimulate Minnesota's flagging economy, the main task of the session will be to craft the state’s two-year budget and close the budget deficit. Masin also invited residents to visit the Minnesota House of Representatives website at http://www.house.mn/ where a link has been set up provide residents throughout the state an avenue to weigh in about how to confront Minnesota's projected $5.2 billion budget deficit.
“Minnesotans aren’t interested in where good ideas come from; they just want us to work together to get things done," said Masin, who was recently elected to her second term in the Minnesota House. “We have only five months to do our work this legislative session, and we need to hit the ground running. Part of that preparation comes from productive conversations in our communities about the best ways to move forward.”
