MASIN VOTES TO PASS COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORTATION PACKAGE

ST. PAUL - The Minnesota House passed a comprehensive transportation bill with a bi-partisan vote of 83 to 46. The bill puts more than $4 billion in much needed investments in the state's rapidly deteriorating transportation infrastructure. Rep. Sandra Masin, a member of the House Transportation Finance Committee, said the legislation is more than just a transportation bill.

"Better roads and transit mean safer and faster commutes, more efficient commerce, and lower property taxes," said Masin. "It's an investment in Minnesota's future."

With the new revenue generated from the House transportation bill, counties and cities will see a larger amount of state funds for local roads and streets.

"As inflation has decreased the buying power of state aid to our communities, reliance on property taxes to pay for local transportation projects has increased," added Masin. "This legislation would translate into real property tax relief for Eagan and Burnsville residents."

Dakota County can expect $4 million per year in additional transportation aid from the state. Annually, Eagan would see $439,000 more and Burnsville could expect around $487,00 more.
