Public Invited to Comment on Transportation at Public Hearing

To the Editor:

One of the most critical challenges facing Dakota County in the next decade will be to effectively manage our transportation system in order to meet the demands of our rapidly growing population. Estimates tell us that Dakota County can expect to grow by over twenty-eight percent by the year 2020. The same growth that brought prosperity to our communities now represents a significant challenge. Moving people and goods safely and efficiently is vital to our economic success, and part of a strategic transportation plan must include discussions about the role of transit as part of a comprehensive regional transportation infrastructure.

In order to shine a light on the specific transportation needs of Dakota County in the coming decade, the Senate Transit Finance Subdivision and the House Transportation and Transit Policy Subcommittees are holding a joint hearing in Burnsville on February 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM at Burnsville City Hall. The hearing is the first in a series of public hearings scheduled around the state to obtain public input on the transportation needs of our region and the role that transit plays.

Citizen involvement is critical to effective government, and we urge you to attend this hearing to share your concerns, your suggestions and your ideas. We all have a stake in the decisions that will be made at the Legislature this session, and we want to give as many people as possible the chance to have their voices heard.

Sincerely,

State Representative Shelley Madore, 37A
State Representative Sandy Masin, 38A
State Representative Will Morgan, 40A
