REP. KIM NORTON ELECTED TO LEADERSHIP POST

ST. PAUL, MN – The House DFL Caucus today announced that state Rep. Kim Norton (DFL – Rochester) will serve as an assistant leader during the 2011 Legislative Session. Rep. Norton will serve as a voice for the DFL Caucus in the broader community, help coordinate outreach efforts, and be a part of the House DFL’s strategic activities by serving on the Caucus Steering Committee.

“Assistant leaders will play an important role in shaping the Caucus and listening to the concerns and input of Minnesotans," Minority Leader Thissen said. “Rep. Norton will be a strong voice for Southwestern Minnesota communities, and an advocate for their interests in our Caucus.”

“As Democrats, we’ve always emphasized being out in our communities, listening to constituents, and making sure that Minnesotans know the hard work that we are doing to help build a better Minnesota,” Thissen added. “The assistant leaders were elected based on their strong history of connecting to their communities.”

Thissen lauded Rep. Norton, saying, “Kim is an accomplished legislative leader and a strong voice for Rochester. In the last four years, she has passed nation-leading legislation on public safety and health care issues. Kim knows her stuff. She is an effective, thoughtful policymaker – and she will serve our state well in this new leadership position.”

Rep. Norton is serving her third term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. In addition to her role as assistant minority leader, Norton is a member of the Education Reform, Health and Human Services Reform, Higher Education Policy and Finance, and Rules and Legislative Administration committees.
