ST. PAUL – State Rep. David Bly, Northfield, took the oath of office today at the State Capitol, officially marking the beginning of his 2nd term as the District 25B State Representative. Bly, first elected in 2006, was excited to get back to work.
“It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve the people of District 25B and our state in the Minnesota House of Representatives," said Bly. “In these challenging economic times, I look forward to working on behalf of our District and to fight for the short and long term solutions Minnesota needs to get back on the right path to economic prosperity.”
Rep. David Bly said the big task of the Legislative Session will be to balance a state budget deficit and indicated the solution should start with one word – jobs.
“The top priority for our state budget, our economy, and for Minnesota families needs to be job protection and job creation,” said Bly. “As we grapple with how to balance the budget we have to look at every decision through a jobs filter. Unless we can get Minnesotans back to work we won’t have a lasting solution to our state budget troubles.”
Bly was pleased with new committee assignments, including being named Vice Chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Committee. He was named to several key committees including: Early Childhood Finance and Policy, Energy Finance and Policy, Housing Finance and Policy and Public Health Finance.
“Working in these committees gives me an opportunity to take a hands-on-approach on several of the critical issues for not only our District, but for the future of Minnesota,” said Bly. “Whether it’s strengthening our higher learning institutions to bolster our world-class workforce or investing in the next generation of renewable energy, we have to seize the opportunity to prepare for a stronger economic future in Minnesota.”
Rep. Bly encouraged people in District 25B to contact him throughout the legislative session. He can be reached at (651) 296-7065, by e-mail at rep.david.bly@house.mn, or by mail at 557 State Office Building, St. Paul, MN 55155.
