REP. BLY TO SERVE ON CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
ST. PAUL – Rep. David Bly announced that he will serve on a Child Care Assistance Program Advisory Committee that will coordinate with the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Health to explore alternative strategies in Child Care funding. The first of several meetings of the Advisory Committee will be Tuesday, November 13th at 1:30 p.m. at the Ramsey County Public Library in Roseville.
"The method in which we fund and administer child care assistance programs can operate more efficiently and effectively," said Bly, who serves on the House Early Childhood Development Committee. "I am optimistic this committee can be a part of a solution that improves childcare assistance in Minnesota."
The Department of Human Service is partnering with the University of Minnesota to evaluate alternative methods of funding for Child Care Assistance Programs. The study aims to offer policy recommendations that focus on simplification, incorporation of market dynamics, and cost containment. The advisory committee will provide information and recommendations to the University of Minnesota and Department of Health to enhance the study.
"The purpose of this committee is bring people together from various backgrounds with different areas of expertise to gather and share about what is an important, but complicated issue," said Bly.
The advisory committee will include state legislators, childcare providers, and referral agencies, county staff, parents, and other childcare program experts in Minnesota.
Bly said the committee plans to meet several times between now and next July.
