HOUSE COMMITTEE TO VISIT NORTHFIELD ON SOUTHWEST BONDING TOUR
Committee will visit Emergency Operations Center, Mill Towns Trail to review bonding request
ST. PAUL - The House of Representatives Capital Investment Committee will make two visits in Northfield on Wednesday, October 24th to hear about important bonding requests for next legislative session. The committee will meet at the Public Safety and Regional Emergency Operations Center to hear about the need for construction of a new facility at 8:30 a.m. In addition, they will meet at the Dundas Trailhead to hear about the completion of the Mill Towns Trail at 9:10 a.m. Rep. David Bly has been a strong advocate for these projects and will join the committee on the tour.
"Our emergency response teams are some of the best in the state," said Bly. "They deserve a facility that can better accommodate the variety of services offered at Northfield's Emergency Operation Center."
Northfield's facility serves as booking and breath test site for Dakota and Rice Counties, the cities of Lonsdale and Dundas, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The City of Northfield also currently serves as the coordinating agency for the South Central Drug Investigative Unit. The current facility is more than 36 years old and the location of the building restricts emergency access because it resides on the intersection of two state highways and a railroad crossing.
Rep. Bly and the Capital Investment committee will next visit the Mill Towns Trail at the Dundas Trailhead. The construction of the Mill Towns State Trail was designated by the State legislature in 2000 as a recreational trail extending in to Faribault from the connection with Sakatah Singing Hills Trail to the cities of Dundas and Northfield. The Mill Towns Trail will create a State recreational trail system from the Mankato to the Red Wing.
"Our recreational trails and parks are an signature characteristic of our community and state," said Bly, who serves on the Minnesota Heritage Committee. "The completion of Mill Towns Trail will be a jewel for Northfield, Faribault, and surrounding communities."
