ST. PAUL – Rep. David Bly earned a 100% voting rating for his consistent support of clean water and clean energy according to a scorecard released by Conservation Minnesota Voter Center today. Conservation Minnesota, a non-partisan environmental group, called the 2007 legislative session the most productive in a generation, citing strong citizen coalition efforts, a solid strategy, and true bipartisanship at the legislature.
"Protecting our lakes and rivers and establishing a sensible energy plan for the future are issues that affect all Minnesotans," said Bly, who serves on the House Energy Finance and Policy Committee. "The strides we made this year will reap benefits for years to come."
The 2007 Session was marked by many historic achievements, such as a 27.5% renewable energy standard by 2025 and a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. In addition, the legislature ratified a Great Lakes water compact and enacted important electronic recycling legislation. The scorecard signaled a significant turn toward conservation by state officials.
“This scorecard documents that the 2007 legislative session was a strong one for Minnesota families who care about clean water, air and wildlife, and creating jobs with a clean energy policy," said Voter Center Executive Director Paul Austin. “In many ways it was a breakthrough year for Minnesota’s Great Outdoors.” Austin said the ability of diverse conservation and environmental groups to work together with legislators on key issues contributed to the successful session.
"Making Minnesota the national leader on renewable energy was a priority for a wide variety of citizens, organizations, and legislators this Session. Our ability to work together is the reason we accomplished this significant achievement," Bly said. "I will continue to support efforts to keep Minnesota at the front of the pack when it comes these issues."
Along with the Energy Finance and Policy Committee, Bly serves on the Minnesota Heritage Finance Committee.
