GOVERNOR UNVEILS SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET FOR CURRENT BUDGET BRYNAERT FastTRAC EXPANSION PROPOSAL INCLUDED

ST. PAUL, MN. – Today, Governor Dayton released a $60 million supplemental budget for the current biennium. The budget funds the Dayton Jobs bill, increases benefits for Minnesota veterans, reverses some of the most devastating cuts to human services, and funds efforts to fight the spread of Asian Carp. The budget is funded through the closing of foreign operating corporate tax loopholes.

State Representative Kathy Brynaert (DFL- Mankato) welcomed the news that Governor Dayton has included $2 million for an expansion of the highly successful FastTRAC program in his supplemental budget.

Rep. Brynaert issued the following statement:

"I am pleased Governor Dayton continues to put a high priority on the incredibly successful FastTRAC jobs program. FastTRAC provides adult workers with the education and career development training skills needed for employment in high-demand fields like health care and advanced manufacturing.

FastTRAC utilizes broad partnerships between the MnSCU institutions, Adult Basic Education, workforce development and local businesses to ensure education and training programs appropriately match workforce demands. FastTRAC participants have a track record of moving to stable employment with a livable wage.

Business leaders across the state are seeking a solution to the job skills gap and the FastTRAC program will help fill it."
