International Renewable Energy Technology Institute (IRETI) a step closer to Mankato
ST PAUL -- During any given meeting, Chair Mahoney of the Bioscience and Workforce Development Policy and Oversight Division asks his committee to vote for or against a bill. Today, however, he asked them, "Who is in favor of this really good bill?"
That really good bill, proposed by State Representative Kathy Brynaert, would establish an international partnership between Sweden and the Minnesota State University Mankato. A partnership with Sweden would bring new renewable energy technology to our state and convert that technology to our standards.
"It’s a practical business partnership," Rep. Brynaert said. "And it will use existing structures."
Dr. John Fry, former dean of Minnesota State University Mankato, strongly supports Rep. Brynaert’s bill.
"The partnership would benefit both Minnesota and Sweden," Dr. Fry said. "Minnesota would receive technology that it doesn’t have and Sweden would reach a new market."
With unanimous support, House File 1737 or the IRETI bill was moved passed on to the Higher Education and Workforce Division.
