REP. KATHY BRYNAERT HONORED FOR SUPPPORT OF ENVIRONMENT

ST. PAUL – State Representative Kathy Brynaert (DFL- Mankato) earned a perfect score for her legislative support of the environment on a scorecard released on Tuesday by the Conservation Minnesota Voter Center. The 2007 legislative session was dubbed the "Conservation Session" for its passage of historic achievements such as a 25 percent renewable energy standard by 2025; a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050; ratification of a Great Lakes water compact; and electronic recycling legislation. According the Center, the scorecard signaled a significant turn toward conservation by state officials.
Brynaert, who serves on the Energy Finance and Policy Committee, as well as Environment and Natural Resources, said protecting the environment is a top priority for her as a state legislator.
"The legislation we passed last session, especially the Renewable Energy Standard, commits Minnesota to a more responsible energy future and a broader stewardship of the environment," said Brynaert. "Tackling issues related to climate change will be a win/win situation, both for the world we live in and for our rural economy."
Brynaert was one of 33 members of the House who received this award from the Conservation Minnesota Voter Center.
“This scorecard documents that the 2007 legislative session was a strong one for Minnesota families who care about clean water, air and wildlife, and creating jobs with a clean energy policy," said Voter Center Executive Director Paul Austin. “In many ways it was a breakthrough year for Minnesota’s Great Outdoors.”
