ST. PAUL – State Representatives Kathy Brynaert (DFL- Mankato) and Terry Morrow (DFL-St. Peter) welcomed the news Monday that the a new MnDOT district headquarters project in Mankato was included in the House Capital Investment Bill. The bill is expected to reach the House floor later this week.
"This is good news for our district and I'm extremely pleased to see the project moving forward," Brynaert said. "This project has been the works for years and it's clear a new facility is needed."
The House bill included just over $20 million for the new facility, which will be located by the National Guard Armory east of Mankato along Hwy 22. The headquarters will include room for MnDOT’s planning, design, traffic, construction, maintenance, administration and a host of other functions.
"This new facility will help MnDOT do a better job maintaining and designing the transportation system in our area," Morrow said. "During hearings for the new headquarters, Minnesota Department of Transportation officials expressed concern about the current facility. The new building will include more secure space for the State Patrol to store evidence, store impounded vehicles, and conduct interviews as part of investigations, as well as provide more space for storing equipment, maneuvering vehicles and warehousing salt and other winter road chemicals"
Both Morrow and Brynaert expressed optimism for the bill's passage in the House.
