(ST. PAUL) — With the start of the school year right around the corner, State Representative John Ward (DFL – Brainerd) is informing constituents about a great educational opportunity for local educators and businesses. The Minnesota High Tech Association and the Minnesota Department of Education have partnered to launch a new version of the popular getSTEM-mn web portal to connect STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educators and local businesses. These classroom connections will help students get excited about and excel in science, technology, engineering and math.
“For Minnesota to be economically successful, we need a high-quality and technologically advanced workforce,” said Rep. Ward. “The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce says in just six years, 70 percent of Minnesota jobs will require some level of college, and they forecasted 188,000 new jobs in STEM related fields.”
Minnesota educators can ask for assistance with STEM education classroom projects. Likewise, businesses can offer everything from STEM equipment to expertise. These connections are intended to augment ongoing classroom learning and demonstrate the real-life applications of geometry theorems, physics experiments and chemistry formulas.
“This is an excellent opportunity, and I wholeheartedly encourage interested educators and businesses to take advantage of the getSTEM-mn website,” added Rep. Ward. “Through these partnerships, we can get kids excited about math and science, prepare them for future success, and set Minnesota up for long-term economic growth.”
