LOCAL PASTOR DELIVERS OPENING PRAYER AT MINNESOTA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

(ST. PAUL) — On an invitation from Representative John Ward (DFL – Brainerd), area pastor John Just delivered the opening prayer during the Minnesota House of Representatives floor session on Monday, March 19, 2012. Pastor Just is the pastor at Timberwood Church in Nisswa.

“I believe the clergy has a responsibility to pray for those in government and positions of leadership," said Pastor Just. “It was an honor to be a part of that tradition.”

“These opening prayers are great reminders of the importance of our work, who were working for, and what our goals should be,” added Rep. Ward. “We're here to help people in need and provide great public service to make our state a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family.”

Full prayer from Pastor Just:

“Oh great God, I come to this place today to bless those who execute the business of leadership, the task of governance. I humbly request your insight, your wisdom, your knowledge to inform this body.

“I ask for the ability to think modestly of our own selves and to think generously of our colleagues.

“I ask for the ability to ruthlessly examine our own motives and graciously understand our colleagues’ motives.

“I ask for this blessing, because there is honor in being a leader. And for those who aspire to this post, there is both a high expectation and a great responsibility.

“When the business is challenging, please provide insight to the willing. Make us compassionate in our victories and respectful in our defeats.

“Allow us the perspective, that we are players in a larger drama that has years of history before us and a future stretching forward.

“May the peace of God rest upon all who hear these words. In his name, amen.”
