REP. WARD ENCOURAGES LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO APPLY FOR BONDING PROJECTS

Application deadline is June 24, 2011

ST. PAUL, MN – State Representative John Ward is encouraging local governments and political subdivisions to file applications for bonding projects to be considered as part of next year's Capital Investment Bill.

According to Ward, the Minnesota Management and Budget Office recently posted instruction and applications for bonding projects; the Governor and State Legislature will consider these bonding requests in the 2012 session.

"This is a great opportunity for local governments to make an official request for a project they consider to be a priority," said Ward. "As the Representative from District 12A, I will make a commitment to work for the inclusion of any application in the next bonding bill."

The 2012 capital budget instructions can be found on the Minnesota Management and Budget website at http://www.mmb.state.mn.us/2012-cap-budget-instructions. The website summarizes the process and timelines, as well as provides the type of information local units need to include in a bonding request and the evaluation criteria.

The deadline for submissions is June 24, 2011. Local units can e-mail submissions to: capitalbudget.mmb@state.mn.us.

In addition, Minnesota Management and Budget provides capital budget instructions for state agencies. These are broad categories of projects that go through a state agency: wastewater infrastructure, state park or trail funding, county or local historic preservation grants, higher education projects, and asset preservation.

"Although I can also recommend projects that have not gone through the Minnesota Management and Budget review, projects that go through this process are generally viewed in a more favorable light," said Ward. "We want to do everything we can to ensure success for our requests, and this application process is an excellent first step."

Rep. Ward recommends that anyone interested in finding out more about the bonding process should consider the House Research short summary at http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/issinfo/clssbond.htm

If you have questions about the bonding process, you can contact Rep. Ward at (651) 296- 4333, or 1-800-683-4205, by mail at 221 State Office Building, 100 Martin Luther King Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155 or via e-mail at rep.john.ward@house.mn.
