AREA PASTOR DELIVERS OPENING PRAYER AT MINNESOTA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Pastor Pedersen invited to deliver the prayer by Rep. John Ward

(ST. PAUL) — On an invitation from Representative John Ward (DFL – Brainerd), area pastor Darrell Pedersen delivered the opening prayer during the Minnesota House of Representatives floor session on Monday, March 14, 2011. Pastor Pederson is the pastor at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter.

Before delivering the prayer, Pastor Pedersen spoke about his upbringing, his experiences, and the good the government can provide.

“My first two calls were to low paying parishes in rural, northern Minnesota," Pastor Pedersen said. “Despite living on a single income, my family was able to experience marvelous circumstances through the use of our rivers, lakes, state parks, public libraries, public television, quality schools, roads, volunteer fire departments, rural healthcare and safe communities.

“As a parish pastor I have seen firsthand the compassionate services provided by state, county, and the community for good people faced with circumstances or crises beyond their own ability to manage,” Pastor Pedersen continued. “My factory-worker father and homemaker mother taught me that government is good because it helps us provide quality public services and care for people in need. They taught me to be proud of the high standard of living that Minnesotans have built up for the benefit of all citizens.”

“The opening prayer at the House is a great opportunity to get local faith leaders from around the state to speak,” Rep. Ward said. “Their prayers are great reminders of the importance of our work, who were working for, and what our goals should be. Government is here to help people in need and provide great public services to make our state a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family.”
