REP. JOHN WARD CONGRATULATES CONSTITUENT REBECCA YEH ON MINNESOTA VARSITY FINALIST SELECTION
(ST. PAUL) — Today, Rep. Ward congratulated Rebecca Yeh — a resident of his district — on her selection as a finalist for the Minnesota Varsity program. Rep. Ward announced the program back in January and encouraged local students to apply.
Minnesota Varsity is a program put together by Minnesota Public Radio to showcase Minnesota’s rising stars in classical music. To enter the contest, music students ages 14-18 had to submit an online recording of their performance.
Rebecca was then selected as one of 15 finalists from across the state to be recorded by MPR and broadcast on television and online during the month of March. From the 15 finalists, 5 will be selected by a panel of Minnesota classical-music celebrity judges to make the final round, with those chosen performing in a special live production at MPR’s Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul on April 17, 2011.
“Minnesota Varsity is a fantastic program to showcase the artistic abilities of our youth and is a great example of what can be done thanks to the Minnesota Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund," Rep. Ward said. “I am extremely proud of Rebecca’s success and wish her the best of luck as she tries to make the final round.”
Rebecca was recorded by MPR on March 8 and was featured on Lakeland News. The date and time of Rebecca’s MPR broadcast has not yet been announced.
