Governor Mark Dayton will join State Representative John Ward at the annual Brainerd Jaycee’s Fishing Extravaganza on Saturday, January 22nd. The event officially runs from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Gull Lake’s Hole in the Day Bay.
Governor Dayton will be ice-fishing at the event, and talking with those in attendance about how to boost tourism in the area. Before going out on the ice to fish, Governor Dayton will be holding a tourism meeting with area residents and business leaders to talk about the importance of tourism to the Brainerd Lakes Area economy and jobs.
“Mark Dayton is the first Governor to ever attend the Brainerd Fishing Extravaganza, and I couldn’t be more pleased," said Ward. “He understands the importance of this event to our local organizations and our tourism industry. The residents of the Brainerd Lakes Area are looking forward to showing the governor what our area has to offer.”
The Brainerd Jaycee’s Extravaganza was started in 1990 and is believed to be the largest ice fishing event in the world. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the contest are donated to over 50 area charities. The event is completely run by volunteers, and anywhere between 10,000 and 15,000 people participate annually.
