REPS. WARD & DOTY REQUEST HELP OF NATIONAL GUARD IN SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSON

BRAINERD, MN - State Representatives John Ward (DFL - Brainerd) and Al Doty (DFL - Royalton) called on Governor Tim Pawlenty today to deploy Minnesota National Guard troops in the search for a missing 82 year old Leader, Minnesota man. Peter Achermann was last seen Friday, July 24, and has not been heard from since. His vehicle was found on a dirt road in Staples, Minnesota. Mr. Achermann’s family, friends, and the Greater Brainerd community are deeply concerned and have already begun an aggressive search effort.

“We know time is our number one challenge right now," said Rep. Ward. “Mr. Achermann needs all hands on deck to help bring him home - that includes the brave and capable men and women of the Minnesota National Guard.”

A new law that went into effect August 1st may also help speed the search process. “Brandon’s Law” was passed in response to several high-profile missing persons cases in recent years involving vulnerable adults. The law is designed to help local law enforcement officials mount quick and aggressive missing person searches in situations just like this.

“Working together we can and will bring Peter home,” Rep. Doty said. “The trained experts of our local law enforcement and community volunteers will be working around the clock to see that happen. Bringing the National Guard on board with this effort will make the search that much more effective.”

Achermann is a white male, approximately 5-foot-9, 175 pounds and has a gray beard and generally walks with a cane. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's department at (800) 450-2677 or (218) 547-1424.
