St. Paul, MN – State Rep. John Ward (DFL – Brainerd) is pleased to announce that the city of Brainerd has been named to receive funding from two different state agencies for several local projects.
“I was very happy to learn Brained will receive funding for projects that will allow us to improve our wastewater infrastructure at less cost to the city, and also enable us to move forward with some commercial development," said Ward. “I want to congratulate city officials on their successful application for these two projects.”
The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority approved a financing package structured as Build America Bond, consisting of a $28.8 million Clean Water Revolving Fund 20-year loan with an interest rate of 3.233 percent. The city of Brainerd will use this loan for the upgrade and expansion of existing wastewater treatment systems. It is estimated this financing plan will save Brainerd taxpayers over $3.7 million in interest costs.
The city of Brainerd’s application for a Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) award was also approved in the amount of $198 thousand. This award money will be used for the rehabilitation of nine commercial buildings in the city of Brainerd.
The SCDP program enables cities in Greater Minnesota to move forward on projects such as residential and rental rehabilitation, public infrastructure improvements and the revitalization of downtown commercial districts.
