St. Paul, MN - The House Capital Investment Committee released their bonding bill this week, characterizing it as a basic bonding bill, designed to create new jobs quickly and make effective use of federal dollars.
The proposal includes $200 million worth of “paintbrush and shovel ready" projects, focused heavily on protecting health and safety, improving transportation and other infrastructure, and preserving state assets. The spending is also strategically planned to leverage federal stimulus and federal matching dollars to the greatest extent possible.
A project for the Central Lakes College in Brainerd is on the list, with $150 thousand identified to replace bleachers.
“Even during tough economic times, we need to maintain and improve our state-owned assets - such as the Central Lakes College campus,” said Ward. “It will also provide a boost to our local economy by creating badly-needed jobs.”
Highlights of the House proposal include:
? $ 12.7 million for flood mitigation
? $ 20 million the University of Minnesota
? $ 30 million for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
? $ 11 million for local bridge replacement
? $ 20 million to improve security at the state’s sex offender facility at Moose Lake
“I’m optimistic this bill will be passed intact, and sent to the Governor as is,” said Ward. “Besides making important improvements, our goal this session is to create jobs, nothing does that better than a bonding bill.”
