LOCAL STUDENTS ACCEPTED TO MINNESOTA HIGH SCHOOL PAGE PROGRAM
For the first time since Rep. John Ward took office, two area students will participate in the Minnesota House of Representatives High School Page Program. Luke Gruenhagen of Baxter and Nathan Lehman of Nisswa were recently selected to participate in this program that provides participants with hands-on access to our state government in action. Minnesota’s program is one of only three in the country.
“Luke and Nathan were chosen from a very competitive field of our state’s future leaders to spend a week with local legislators and learn about our state government," said Ward. “There are many elected leaders in our state who were inspired to run for office by their participation in this program. Who knows, maybe one day Luke or Nathan could be sitting in my chair?”
Among the many opportunities available to these two individuals will be: individual meetings with legislators, assisting members during legislative session, participating in a mock committee session and meeting with constitutional officers, members of the judiciary, lobbyists and members of the media.
This program is open to all Minnesota high school students in their junior year. Program participants are selected in the fall of each year based on a formal process which includes an application, faculty recommendation, and an essay.
“I look forward to seeing and working with both students when they make their trip to St. Paul and experience our state government in action in February,” said Ward.
