FUNDING AVAILABLE TO ENHANCE LOCAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM


State Rep. John Ward (DFL-Brainerd) is encouraging area residents to consider applying for funding for transportation enhancement project through the Region Five Development Commission. To qualify, the project must be implemented during fiscal year 2013 (July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013), and fall under one of twelve categories, some of which include: pedestrians and bike facilities, acquisition of scenic or historic easements and sites, landscaping and scene beautification, historic preservation, control and removal of outdoor advertising, and establishment of transportation museums, among others.
“This is a great opportunity to beautify and enhance our regional roads, trails and bridges," said Ward. “Anyone who has an idea for a project such as this should attend the upcoming workshop on October 8th to find out more.”
A special workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Region Five Development Commission Office located at 403 Prairie Avenue, NE in Staples.
