NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITH THE DISABLED

If you know someone you believe should be recognized for their outstanding efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities, State Rep. John Ward is hoping you'll recommend them for an award from the Minnesota State Council in Disability.
"Every day, there are selfless people in our communities who are reaching out to help the disabled, often with little or no recognition or thanks," said Ward. "Our disabled friends would be lost without them; this is our chance to honor them for their efforts."
Eligible candidates could be either a volunteer who works with the disabled community, or a business that employs people with disabilities. In total, there are 15 categories of nominations, some of which include: the Minnesota Award, awarded to a Minnesotan with a disability who has worked to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, the Access Award, to recognize creative solution that eliminate or reduce barriers, the Distinguished Volunteer Award, and the Employer of the Year Award, among others.
The deadline to submit nominations is September 5th, 2008. Winners will be recognized and given an award from the Minnesota State Council on Disability at their Annual Awards Luncheon.
For more information on the award categories or to receive a nomination form, you can contact Rep. John Ward at rep.john.ward@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-4333. You can also download a form from the Minnesota State Council in Disability at www.disability.state.mn.us.
