Local residents testify at State Capitol

Dear Editor,

Recently, several citizens from Nisswa, Crosby, Brainerd and Baxter came to the Capitol to testify on behalf of several bills I have introduced. I want to recognize and thank them for doing a fantastic job of representing all of you and helping move forward good legislation for our area.

They are: Jenny Smith on the Cuyuna Recreation Area bonding request; Bob Nelson on my bill to make non-state residents of a military family eligible to apply for higher education financial aid once they move back to Minnesota; Sheila Haverkamp to request planning and design bonding dollars to expand our VA Clinic at our RTC to include a veterans nursing home; Jerry Walseth, Anne Holub, Amy Gitchell and Chelsea Holub on repealing the tax exemption for seasonal property owners for school operating levies and, finally, Dr. Tom Wittkop, Dr. Mark Holub and Lynn Nelson, who gave very compelling testimony on why we need to keep our CABHS program open. These area citizens made the trip to St. Paul so the Legislature could hear how important this legislation is for District 12A. You were, and are, remarkable.

I also recently was able to visit and spend time talking about issues with board members of our Crow Wing County Electric Co-op and students from our Brainerd FFA. I know there are other individuals and groups coming to see me in the future and I very much look forward to that.

Finally, I want to thank all of you who sent in my legislative survey or have emailed, called or sent me a letter. I very much value, appreciate and respect all of your opinions, so please stay in touch.

Respectfully,
Representative John Ward
District 12A
