REP. WARD ANNOUNCES GRANT OPPORTUNITIES
State Representative John Ward (DFL-Brainerd) is announcing two grants opportunities available in the state to help individuals explore health care careers.
"These grants address our most pressing need at a time of recession – jobs," said Rep. Ward. "I would encourage anyone who is interested to apply."
The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking applications from statewide nonprofits to administer the Summer Health Care Internship Program. The purpose of the program is to expose interested secondary and postsecondary students to various careers within the health care profession through summer internships with hospitals, clinics, nursing facilities, and home care providers.
A total of $300,000 is available in 2008, and the grant awards will be announced by March 15, 2008, for the contract period beginning April 1, 2008, though December 31, 2008. The second grant opportunity is through the Minnesota Department of Human Services, which is requesting proposals from qualified Medicaid Home and Community-Based service (HCBS) providers interested in receiving scholarship funds for employee education and training in nursing and other health care fields.
Home and Community-Based providers approved to participate in the HCBS scholarship program will receive a rate adjustment of up to 3/10 of one percent of their medical assistance reimbursement rate, to be used for qualified employee scholarships.
