REP. JOHN WARD RECEIVES "FRIEND OF EMS" AWARD
On December 18th, Emergency Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians and paramedics attended a round table discussion on issues pertaining to ambulance providers. This event was held in Baxter/Brainerd to recognize one of our newest heroes in the public policy area.
Rep. John Ward burst onto the scene early in the 2007 legislative session with an expressed interest in supporting EMS and public safety. In an unusual move for a new legislator, Ward showed an interest in understanding and advocating for emergency services.
On hand were providers from Brainerd and Longville, as well as other areas. In a brief ceremony, Minnesota Ambulance Association Central Regional Director Gary Pearson (Brainerd), Minnesota Ambulance Association President, Buck McAlpin (metro area) and EMS Legislative Consultant O.J. Doyle presented Rep. Ward with the prestigious "Friends of EMS Award". McAlpin, also a Director for North Memorial Ambulance, noted Rep. Ward's legislative advocacy in obtaining AED (Automatic External Defibrillation) funding for rural law enforcement squad cars and the voice that supports rural EMS and healthcare issues.
Rep. Ward's other legislative concerns include creating exiting opportunities for re-integration our returning veterans with rural bridge training programs, and to help with the recruitment and retention issues facing rural EMS Service Providers.
Ward is a retired teacher and resident of the Brainerd area.
