VETERANS DESERVE OUR CONTINUED SUPPORT

Dear Editor,
This Veteran's Day there is cause for celebration – over 2,500 members of the Minnesota National Guard are returning home after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are deeply grateful to them for their service, and to the many others who have committed to serve our country in the past.
I'm very proud of the work we did last session to help our returning veterans re-adjust to civilian life. We increased funding for the Department of Veteran's Affairs and county services, as well as approving $1 thousand a semester for tuition so veterans can continue their education. This bill also extends education benefits to the spouses of military members who were killed in action.
In response to the tragic suicide of a veteran in a neighboring town, I authored a bill that creates a telephone hot line for veterans in need of help. The toll-free line is open 24 hours and day, 7 days a week, and the phone number is 1-888-LINKVET. Many times, late nights and week-ends present the greatest challenge for someone struggling with depressing. Now, help is just a phone call away.
Minnesota's soldiers and their families deserve our support. Please join me in thanking our veterans and active service members for all they do.

Sincerely,
State Representative Patti Fritz
